Due to their intense psychological insight, works by Edvard Munch (1863-1944) resonate with contemporary viewers as much as ever. In this slide lecture, art historian Dr. Michelle Paluch-Mishur returns to the La Grange Park Public Library District on Monday, February 23 at 7pm to discuss Munch’s intriguing artistic vision through a study of paintings and prints that relate closely to his biography. She will survey Munch's major themes and explain how relationships during his formative years affected his approach to various subjects. Dr. Paluch-Mishur will also discuss how this pioneer of expressionism explored the human condition through haunting imagery. Munch's works are being exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago through April 2009.
Dr. Michelle Paluch-Mishur holds a Ph.D. in art history and is the recipient of numerous awards, grants and fellowships. In addition, she has taught Art History and Art Appreciation at the university level for fourteen years.
