Old Time American Music with Phil Passen on Dulcimer

American roots music and the beautiful sound and versatility of the dulcimer shine in this program of lively and lovely tunes.  The familiar Turkey in the Straw and Arkansas Traveler as well as the not so familiar Grub Springs and John Brown's Dream should have you dancing.

Phil Passen will be at the Library on Sunday, April 5 at 2pm.  Join us.

The Path to "On The Job": Murder, Reflection and Where TV Cop Shows Fail

Author, journalist an lifelong Chicagoan Daniel P. Smith guides readers into the closed-door society that is the Chicago Police Department in his compelling debut work, On The Job: Behind the Stars of the Chicago Police Department. Smith, himself a product of a Chicago Police family, will be at the Library on Monday, March 30 at 7 pm to discuss the personal experiences that led him to penning the book and the unique perspective he was able to achieve given his background.

Copies of On The Job will be available for purchase after the program.

The Strange Case of Mary Todd Lincoln and the Insanity Files

This presentation is based on the recent discovery of letters written by Mary Todd Lincoln during her episode of insanity.  The letters were assumed long destroyed, but a lucky find by historical detective Jason Emerson gives us the first new interpretation of the insanity case in 20 years.

Marcy Kubat, and author and lecturer, will be at the Library on Monday, March 16 at 7pm to discuss the letters.

Calling All Knitters

Our next meeting of our knitters is Friday, March 13th.  They start meeting on the 2nd floor in the East Bay about 10am and stay as long as they can.

Film Discussion

Rain Gardens

Rain Gardens are an old idea making a comeback and an impact in urban and suburban communities.  Sue Cubberly from the Rain Garden Network, will be at the Library on Saturday, March 14 at 2 pm to show you how to create a Rain Garden in your own yard.
